Then we welcome your application to join our team in the role of Scientific Associate Flow Chemistry, based in Allschwil.



Job Responsibilities

  • Setting up new continuous-flow methodologies
  • Operation and maintenance of special flow chemistry equipment
  • Perform reactions on a laboratory scale (mg to multi g) according to known procedures
  • Synthesize single compounds, building-blocks, scaffolds, and small libraries to support drug discovery projects
  • Look for alternative reaction conditions and optimize reaction processes
  • Purify reaction products using standard techniques (e.g., column chromatography, prep. HPLC, crystallization or distillation) and perform compound analysis (e.g. TLC, LC-MS, 1H and 13C NMR, etc.)
  • Interpret analytical data
  • Give advice and propose new synthetic routes
  • Document practical work using an electronic lab journal
  • Perform general lab duties
  • Plan practical work on a weekly basis and give timelines of own work

Candidate Requirements

  • Master degree in organic chemistry and experience performing lab-scale organic reactions
  • Hands-on knowledge on chemical reactors and continuous-flow methodologies
  • Routine use of modern methods to purify and characterize organic compounds (e.g. column chromatography, automated column chromatography, HPLC, LC-MS, NMR, GC, etc.)
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Pro-active, well-organized, and strong problem solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and team-working skills
  • Fluent in English and good knowledge of German and/or French
  • Willingness to learn new skills and techniques
