The Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS) has recently been established to deliver world class excellence in biomedical research to better understand health and disease as influenced by genetics, metabolism and environment with the goal of translating this knowledge into personalized science-based nutrition.
The Institute combines latest technologies and biomedical knowledge to study the molecular mechanisms of chronic disease. Large-scale omics capabilities including genomics, proteomics, lipidomics and metabolomics are integrated with bioinformatics and systems biology to generate holistic molecular insights into nutritionally actionable conditions. Using this integrated approach, we are developing nutritional approaches to prevent disease and facilitate healthy aging.
Demonstrating strong result focus and communication skills, you will be conducting bioinformatics and statistical analyses of models of pancreatic cellular reprogramming and contribute to the HUMAN European Project aiming to study the function of genetic risk variant associated to metabolic diseases with the use of animal models with humanised liver and pancreas.
Perform Computational data analyses, bioinformatics analyses and model building to understand stem cell differentiation with application to diabetes, and other metabolic diseases
Develop cellular models for health and disease to study endoderm differentiation, pancreas development, beta-cell differentiation, metabolism and diabetes
Read, comprehend and translate current scientific literature into laboratory setting
Plan scientific projects with clear and supported scientific rationale. Execute laboratory experiments independently and in collaboration with outside investigators and contract laboratories
Collect, record, analyze, reduce and interpret all data according to scientifically accepted standards. Able to handle and follow through with all administrative matters concerning internal and external research projects.
Write up and or organize data into presentations for internal and or external reports publications or scientific meetings
For major new initiatives able to put together rationale, propose project plans and budget to the management and support the defense of these in scientific forum
Develop collaborative interactions with all team members and experts from other teams and efficiently utilize and integrate systems biology strategies in to work flow. Train and clearly instruct PhD students and technicians or other colleagues on cell differentiation protocols and stem cell work.
Education and experience
PhD in Cell biology
Strong background in data analysis, bioinformatics and metabolism
Previous 1-2 years of post-doc experience will be considered an asset
Expertise in stem cells is considered a strong advantage
Fluency in English
