Over the last 5 years, the 600-staff NRC has published around 1000 scientific publications in peer review journals and files about 80 patents every year. The NRC also has around 100 research collaborations with universities or research institutes around the world.
The NRC is organized with three large research institutes for Nutritional Science, Materials Science and Food Safety & Analytical Science. These major Institutes are complemented by Research Units focusing on Clinical Development, PetCare. The NRC plays an important role in providing the science behind healthier products, and how food affects the host (learn more about the NRC at www.research.nestle.com).
Lausanne is home to the 2 strongholds of Nestlé’s fundamental research: the Nestlé Research Center (NRC) and the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS) that investigate the complex interactions between nutrition, health and wellness.
As Gut Ecosystem department head,you will manage three groups ofNRC R&D specialists and experts in the different components of the host-microbe ecosystem, including experts in microbiota, gut physiologyand immunology,and lead the scientific activities of the Department.You will direct research as well as develop and manage relevant competences and resources (over 30 people). Collaborating transversally with the others Nestlé Institutes, and intensifying key academic partnership
Build and drive scientific strategy on host-microbe ecosystem to ensure efficient execution of team objectives
Lead the Gut Ecosystem Department and engage with other units of the Nestlé R&D network in alignment with consumer and business needs
Drive initiatives and innovative projects/ideas in the area of improving health through nutrition
Engage, influence and build network externally
Actively evaluate external opportunities and integrate them in the Research Unit strategy
- Lead, coach and develop teams of people and integrate the different competences within the Department to maximize synergies, impact and contribution
- Ensure guardianship and dissemination of knowledge in line with the latest innovations in academia and industry
Education and experience
Senior expert in(including PhD)host-microbe interaction, i.e. microbiota, gut physiology, digestive diseases, immune or related domains with international experience in RD
Proven experience in developing and executing Scientific strategies that can be translated into innovative business applications
Experience in leading, coaching and developing people
This one could go with the first bullet International experience in R&D with some experience in or exposure to business would be a plus
Established external network in the gut ecosystem area
Excellent written and oral skills in English
