Over the last 5 years, the 600-staff NRC has published around 1000 scientific publications in peer review journals and files about 80 patents every year. The NRC also has around 100 research collaborations with universities or research institutes around the world. The NRC devotes itself to 5 main research programs: food safety and integrity, first 1000 days and healthy kids, healthy ageing, healthy pleasure and sustainable nutrition. The NRC plays an important role in providing the science behind healthier products, and how food impacts on the host (learn more about the NRC at www.research.nestle.com).
Lausanne is home to the 2 strongholds of Nestlé’s fundamental research: the Nestlé Research Center (NRC) and the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS) that investigate the complex interactions between nutrition, health and wellness.
As Gut Ecosystem Expert Network Leader, you will lead a network of NRC R&D specialists and experts in the host-microbe ecosystem, including experts in microbiota, intestinal barrier, gut physiology and immunology. You will develop the network strategy in alignment with consumer business needs. You will develop people’s scientific competences in alignment with the Science and Technology (S&T) strategy. You will lead the implementation of this strategy as defined in the roadmaps across businesses and will feed the long term product renovation pipeline with innovative ideas/projects. You will also ensure guardianship and dissemination of knowledge in line with the latest innovations in academia and industry, and will integrate the different competences within the network to maximize synergies, impact and contribution. In this function you will evaluate external opportunities to create a dynamic research program.
Key responsibilities
  • Translate business needs into Nutrition and Health research priorities and initiate projects
  • Ensure/Allocate adequate resources, competence levels and priority settings to meet agreed objectives
  • Establish a solid external network to allow building and/or insourcing knowledge and technologies
  • Build a solid internal network with relevant S&T managers and other Expert Networks/Communities to ensure strategic alignment across the organization
  • Leverage network scientific and technical knowledge across R&D to support innovation/renovation projects
  • Be the contact point within Nestlé for all issues related to the Nestlé Science & Technology area owned by the network
  • Ensure scientific and technical knowledge is shared and leveraged across R&D and SBU (e.g. through e-learnings, trainings, workshops, events, or meetings)
Education and experience
  • Recognized expertise (and PhD) in a field that falls within the Science & Technology area of the Network
  • Proven experience in developing and executing S&T strategies
  • Proven experience in leading, coaching and developing people
  • International experience in R&D / Operations with some experience and/or exposure in business and/or markets would be a plus
