Over the last 5 years, the 600-staff NRC has published around 1000 scientific publications in peer review journals and files about 80 patents every year. The NRC also has around 100 research collaborations with universities or research institutes around the world. The NRC devotes itself to 5 main research programs: food safety and integrity, first 1000 days and healthy kids, healthy ageing, healthy pleasure and sustainable nutrition. Lausanne is home to the 2 strongholds of Nestlé’s fundamental research: the Nestlé Research Center (NRC) and the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS) that investigate the complex interactions between nutrition, health and wellness.
As Gut Ecosystem Research Unit Leader,you will manage teamsof NRC R&D specialists and experts in the different components of the host-microbe ecosystem, including experts in microbiota, intestinal barrier, gut physiologyand immunology,and lead the scientific activities of the Research Unit transversally within the NRC network. You will direct research as well as develop and manage relevant competences and resources (over 30 people).
Build and drive scientific strategy on host-microbe ecosystem to ensure efficient execution of team objectives
Lead transversally the Gut Ecosystem Research Unit and engage with other units of the Nestlé R&D network in alignment with consumer and business needs
Drive initiatives and innovative projects/ideas in the area of Nutrition & Health Research
Engage, influence and build network externally
Actively evaluate external opportunities and integrate them in the Research Unit strategy
- Lead, coach and develop teams of people and integrate the different competences within the Research Unit to maximize synergies, impact and contribution
- Ensure guardianship and dissemination of knowledge in line with the latest innovations in academia and industry
Education and experience
Recognized expertise (and PhD) inhost-microbe interaction, i.e. microbiota, intestinal barrier, gut physiology, digestive diseases, immune (including allergic disorders) or related domains.
Proven experience in developing and executing Science & Technology strategies
Experience in leading, coaching and developing people
International experience in R&D with some experience in or exposure to business would be a plus
Established external network in the gut ecosystem area
Excellent written and oral skills in English
