The Application of CAD for 3D TRACE Model Development for the PKL Facility
Your tasks

The internship offer is within the Plant Behaviour Group of the STARS project, the goal is to prepare a 3D pressure vessel (PV) component model for the primar circle (PKL) integral test facility and contribute to the OECD PKL IV project with analysis using the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission system code TRACE:

  • The existing CAD model of PKL facility has to be adapted/cleaned for obtaining fluid volumes from solid components in SolidWork
  • The student will start with PV component (1 month)
  • Other primary side pipe components can be adapted/cleaned in accordance to a remaining time
  • Generate the 3D TRACE model for the PV (max 1 week)
  • Create heat structures components for the 3D PV component (3 weeks)
  • Perform tests using with existing TRACE model and newly developed 3D PV model (0.5 - 1 month)
  • Report obtained results (1 – 2 weeks)
Your profile
  • Bachelor in Engineering (mechanical, nuclear or similar)
  • Working experience with CAD (solid modelling) software, preferably SolidWorks
  • Good knowledge of English
  • A basic knowledge of thermal-hydraulic system codes is beneficial
