One of our research groups specializes in investigations of electronic and magnetic properties of quantum materials with high resolution X-Ray spectroscopies, i.e. Resonant Inelastic X-Ray Scattering (RIXS) and Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES). These investigations cover a variety of correlated materials such as low dimensional systems, thin films of oxide heterostructures, and 3d- as well as 5d transition metal oxides. In Resonant Inelastic X-Ray Scattering on correlated 3d- and 5d- transition metal oxides
Your tasks
Your research activity will focus on the studies of the electronic structure, correlation effects and the magnetic properties in correlated 3d- and 5d- transition metal oxides with Resonant Inelastic X-Ray Scattering (RIXS). RIXS as a photon-in/photon-out spectroscopic method gives direct access to low energy excitations of a solid. In your projects you will investigate single crystals and thin film samples of oxide heterostructures. The thin film samples you will grow yourself with the pulsed laser deposition instruments of our group. The focus of your research will be to use the state-of-the-art RIXS spectrometer at the Advanced Resonant Spectroscopies (ADRESS) beamline at the SLS for detailed spectroscopic investigations. Your postdoctoral projects will be embedded in the Sinergia network “Mott Physics Beyond the Heisenberg Model in Iridates and Related Materials”.
Your profile
You have completed a PhD in physics, chemistry or materials sciences. You are familiar with X-Ray spectroscopy, optical absorption spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy or inelastic neutron scattering. Experience in research on correlated materials, transition metal oxides or oxide heterostructures will be very helpful. You are interested in operating and upgrading state-of-the-art experimental equipment and enjoy working with external users as well as within your team. Excellent communication skills in English are completing your application profile.
