As Global Technical Lead for Large Molecule Drug Substance in CoE you are part of  "Global Strategy & Engineering" (PTA) in Pharma Technical Operations (PT).


Behind every presentation of each product sold by Roche is the involvement of Pharma Global Technical Operations (PT). Starting with Phase I of the development process and continuing through to product maturity, PT makes medicines at sites around the world and includes more than 10 000 employees worldwide.


Global Strategy and Engineering (PTA) builds the bridge between strategy and implementation. The mandate of the group is to align functional strategies, goals and projects and to bring focus to the organization by objectively analyzing risks and opportunities. The group is further responsible for planning and executing large global capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects, managing the global project portfolios and for strengthening project management and execution capabilities.


The Center of Excellence for Technology (CoE-T) is a group of Technology experts, which ensure the availability of state of the art technology standards and knowledge to enable effective and efficient project execution.


The Global Technical Lead for Large Molecule Drug Substance in CoE ensures availability of the right industry best-practice Global Technology Standards and influences CAPEX projects’ time, cost and quality as well as support efficient product transfers. He/She influences and helps determine the strategic technical objectives and goals of the organization and drives the application of the Large Molecule Drug Substance related Global Engineering Technology Standards. He/She applies expert knowledge and ingenuity to develop advanced technology concepts. The Global Technical Lead reports directly to the Head of CoE-T.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Set the strategy of the Global Technology Standard definition and develop, communicate and champion the purpose and value of the Global Technology Standards and engage the engineering community/network in applying the Technology Standards for successful project outcomes and minimized business risk
  • Establish, maintain and deploy Global Technology Standards and actively monitor the application and performance of Global Technology Standards, identify areas of operational improvements
  • Establish, maintain and conduct effective training for the Global Technology Standards
  • Lead the global Community of Practice (COP) for the areas of expertise as well as lead Technology related Key Initiatives
  • Ensure and provide effective support to sites, affiliates and for Strategic Analysis in area of expertise as required

    You have a B.Sc. in Engineering or science, a M.Sc. (ideally in engineering or science) or equivalent (e.g. Dipl.-Ing. Univ. in CH/D) is preferred. Furthermore you have 15+ years of relevant industry experience, preferably pharma and/or diagnostics and 5+ years of people leadership experience in a matrix organization.

    Your Qualifications:

    • Experience in a complex global working environment and excellent knowledge of the various aspects of the Large Molecule Drug Substance Technology
    • Self-driven and strong sense for excellence yet practical mindset and strong interpersonal and collaboration skills in developing Technology Standards with the ability to influence others in a positive, collaborative manner
    • Strong written communication skills to prepare clear written reports, memos, and letters for distribution to higher management as well as excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with senior management
    • Broad knowledge and understanding of engineering technologies in a global environment as well as excellent business acumen, analytical skills, strong stakeholder management skills and a sense for most efficient and effective processes
    • Leadership skills and ability to lead diverse, cross-functional teams
    • Proficient knowledge of English (written & spoken) a must, German and other additional languages (e.g. Portuguese, Mandarin) a plus and flexibility for domestic and international travel (up to 30%) is required

    The position can either be filled in Basel or in San Francisco.
