(Senior) Research Portfolio Planning Manager

The (Senior) Research Portfolio Planning Manager provides our discovery teams in pRED (Pharma Research and Early Development) with decision analysis and strategic support to ensure alignment with portfolio priorities, and advises teams on internal governance processes. In this role, you will give input into the annual prioritization and goal setting process as well as into the R&D model updates. Additionally, you will:

  • Perform business analyses in support of strategic portfolio projects and ensure alignment of cross-functional assumptions for a consolidated project view
  • Prepare regular reports on progress of portfolio and implications (including strategic context) and provide input to cross-portfolio reports
  • Provide high-quality presentations and documentation for senior management
  • Be responsible for the Research Resource Review Committee meeting management and minutes
  • Partner with Portfolio Planning Managers in Early Development to develop understanding of Roche pipeline across all development stages
  • Report to the Global Head of Portfolio Planning and Decision Analyses pRED

    As a strong candidate for this position, you have an advanced university degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, pharmacy, medicine or physics (PhD or M.D.) plus at least 3-5 years of experience working in Pharma R&D. You have in depth know-how in the early R&D phases of drug discovery and an understanding of the lead identification, optimization and evaluation process of molecules in a multidisciplinary environment from inception to candidate selection. Additionally, you bring the following skills/ experience:

    • Core expertise in at least one indication out of Oncology, Ophthalmology, Neuroscience, Inflammation or Infectious Diseases
    • A strategic and analytical mindset with track record of integrating and synthesizing findings from multiple sources to enable informed strategic decision making
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a cross functional team and build cross-functional partnerships
    • Customer service orientation, collaborative attitude and flexibility to compromise
    • Be quick to react to urgent requests, relying on self-drive and motivation and establishing networks across the organization to deliver analysis/information in a high quality manner and on time
    • Comfort when interacting with senior leaders to provide both support and input for their initiatives
    • Motivation to work in a fast-paced, hard-working and fun-loving team; flexible and resourceful with the ability to work independently and with minimal direction
