Postdoc position for the synthesis and characterization of cathode materials for lithium ion batteries 100%
The Laboratory Materials for Energy Conversion is focusing on materials and device innovation for energy conversion and storage technologies. We are offering a
The research project focuses on the development of cathode materials for lithium and post-lithium ion batteries within the collaborative research framework of the Swiss Competence Center for Heat and Electricity Storage. Our lab is fully equipped for battery fabrication and testing. State-of-the-art facilities include labs with multiple synthesis reactors, fume hoods, furnaces, gloveboxes, as well as (in-situ) X-ray diffractometers, Raman and FTIR spectrometers, thermogravimetric analyzer, calorimeters, electrochemical characterization including impedance spectroscopy, mass spectrometers, gas chromatographers, etc. Access to electron microscopes, nuclear magnetic resonance, and other specialized techniques is also available within Empa. Our lab also regularly employs synchrotron and neutron based techniques at large-scale facilities across Europe.
We are looking for a highly motivated person ready to work independently and in our international research team at Empa. The ideal candidate should preferably have a degree in chemistry or materials science. The position requires a strong background in synthesis and/or electrochemical characterization of battery materials and battery design. The willingness to participate actively in an interdisciplinary project with our partners is also a requirement. Earliest starting date is February 2017.
