The activities of the Postdoc position are focused on studying bacterial-surface interactions through biophysical and molecular microbiology tools. The tasks and responsibilities include:

  • tackling scientific questions for improved understanding of bacteria on surfaces such as mechanosensing system of bacteria, the role of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS)

  • working with different microorganisms, including class II microbes

  • designing, executing and analyzing scientific experiments and results

  • writing scientific publications, grant applications and presenting data at national and international scientific meetings

The candidate should have a PhD degree in Microbiology, biology-related Material Science, Bioengineering or similar disciplines. Good knowledge in general microbiological techniques, especially in biofilm formation and quantification, is of advantage. Strong interest in material-related research is a great plus. Experiences with laboratory equipment, such as microplate reader, flow chambers, fluorescence microscopy and biophysical tools for surface characterization, are highly desired. The candidate should have a strongtrack record in scientific publications.

We are looking for a highly motivated person capable of independent, efficient handling of scientific and industry related projects inan interdisciplinary environment. The candidate is expected to actively bring in his/her scientific expertise and competence and able to perform multi-tasks. Excellent communication skill in English is a must. German knowledge would be a plus.

The position (100%) will be limited to two years with options for an extension.
