System Engineer- Dev OPS

The Blue Brain Project (BBP), applies advanced neuroinformatics, data analytics, high-performance computing and simulation-based approaches to the challenge of understanding the structure and function of the mammalian brain in health and disease. The BBP plays a leading role in the Human Brain Project, which aims to accelerate our understanding of the human brain, enable advances in defining and diagnosing brain disorders, and develop new brain-like technologies through open science and global collaboration.
 
The Core Service team within BBP is responsible for delivering the infrastructure, tools and IT services supporting the project. In order to strengthen the team, we are looking for a
 
 
System Engineer – Dev OPS
 
 
Specific responsabilities include: 
  
  • Maintain and improve and existing IT services to match users expectations
  • Provide end users with technical support on a set of IT services
  • Participate in the building and delivery of infrastructure components and IT services
  • Document infrastructure and deploy processes for handover / use by other teams
 
Essential skills and experience required:
 
  • Very good knowledge of Linux operating system (e.g. RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu)
  • Proficient in scripting languages (e.g. Python, Ruby, Perl, shell)
  • Experience managing a continuous integration system (e.g. Jenkins CI, Bamboo)
  • Very good knowledge of Revision Control systems (e.g. Git, svn)
  • Track record of operating production services in a dynamic environment
 
Preferred:
 
  • Experience working with Cloud Computing and Server Virtualization
  • Experience with Puppet, Chef, Ansible or similar provisioning tools
  • Experience working with open source technologies
 
 
Profile:
 
  • Bachelor or Master degree in computer science or similar
  • Experience working in a collaborative and multi-cultural environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral
  • Fast learner, eager to expand his/her domains of expertise
  • Proven ability to work both independently and in team-based environments
  • Fluent communication in English (written and spoken)
