The Blue Brain Project,led by Prof. Henry Markram, is looking for an experienced

Software Engineer – Frontend
To work on collaborative tools for the Human Brain Project and the wider neuroscience community.
Specific responsibilities include:
  • Frontend development of rich, highly interactive web interfaces to enable neuroscientific collaboration in HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript
  • Participation in the UX and UI design process
  • Development of rich UI modules using 2D and 3D graphical libraries
  • Integration with various backend services and tools through REST interfaces
  • All aspects of the modern software development lifecycle: unit testing, continuous integration, version control, debugging, documentation and direct user support


Essential skills and experience:

  • Intimate familiarity with at least one major Javascript web framework
  • Strong HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript development experience
  • Talented in UX and UI design
  • Deep understanding of Web API format
  • Practitioner of the modern web development tools (Grunt, Gulp, Sass, Less, CDN, Mocha or similar, Selenium or similar)
  • Very good familiarity with the modern software development life-cycle: unit testing, continuous integration, version control, debugging, documentation
  • Good team players and fluent English in speech and writing



  • Agile Methodologies
  • Strong Angular JS experience
  • D3.js (or Web Canvas), Three.js (or WebGL)
  • Past experience as a UI or UX designer
  • Backend experience with Flask, Tornado, Django
  • Experience with single page web application architecture
  • Experience in developing scalable application deployed in a cloud
  • Micro-Service architecture



  • Bachelors or Masters degree in software engineering or similar
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience and successful development track record for large collaborative software projects
