A “Wave” is a bundled deployment of systems and business processes along the roadmap to full realization of STRIDE benefits. The role is responsible for all inter-program activities necessary to complete the Wave deployments. This role also ensures successful transition to operations, and documentation of lessons learned to benefit future Waves.

Accountability areas
• Delivers IT Services, systems and applications assessed to have a medium to high impact and risk to the business processes they underpin
• Ensures adherence to quality standards as defined by the IT Organization
• Ensures appropriate response to audit / IGM assessment findings and recommendations
• Acts as a mentor in the discipline of managing IT Services, systems and applications and influences the personal development of mentees
• Identify, document, and track all wave dependencies and constraints:
o STRIDE Inter-program
o Critical business milestones
o Non-STRIDE dependencies
• End-to-End business process
• End-to-End data flow
• Integrated testing
• User role harmonization and access
• Cross program change management activities
• Cross program change control
• Assist in vendor management
• Training
• Operational readiness
• Post production hyper-care
• Monitor status of programs contributing to assigned waves and ensure timely resolution of risks and issues
• Indirect responsibility for maintaining adherence to budget Decision Making
• Takes decisions with a short to medium-term impact independently based on precedence and within guidelines generally available
• Determines the program of action and day-to-day business operations
• Translates the individual program plans into an integrated plan, and guides execution
• Determines tactical and operational objectives and for Waves within their accountability

• Clear planning for the scope and timeframe of Wave delivery
• Integrated Wave plan showing key individual and inter-program milestones
• Successful provision and delivery of inter-program activities
• Stakeholder management and ability to influence and communicate across a global organization.
• Adherence to budget and demonstration of efficiency initiatives with positive budget impact both within the business and IT
• Ensure key strategic IT programs are delivered and implemented within agreed and scheduled timelines and adhere to the Novartis IT quality standards.
• Motivated global team, and clear definitions of responsibilities
Minimum requirements• The position requires a proven leader, with 10 years of business/IT experience
• At least 8 years of experience delivering and maintaining large global systems.
• A degree in Computer Sciences or Medical Informatics is highly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience leading teams in a fast-paced regulated environment across multiple divisions and geographies.
• Thought leader within their area of responsibility
• Advises peers and senior parties on complex issues, provides complex, contextual advice in order to influence the management of IT Services, applications and systems across business domains
• Sets the quality standard with their assigned area
• Internal and external interaction mainly requires interpretation of complex information and sometimes persuasion, interfacing with all levels of management and customers or suppliers to assure a consistent supply of quality products and IT Services
• Leverages professional networks across functions and business areas
• Understands the competing needs within the organization beyond the own part of the business
• Anticipates how internal and external stakeholders impact progress and priorities


• Strategic planning

• Pharmaceutical regulations pertaining to computerized systems
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills
• Knowledge of systems supporting Development Operations (e.g. CTMS, CDMS, EDC, Clinical Analysis & Reporting, Investigator Portals, Document Management, and Clinical Project & Portfolio Management) is desired
