Job ID 195865BR Position Title Biostatistician/Applied Mathematician, Translational Medicine Digital Division NIBR Business Unit Translational Medicine Country Switzerland Work Location Basel Company/Legal Entity Novartis Pharma AG Functional Area Research & Development Job Type Full Time Employment Type Regular Job Description As an applied biostatistics specialist working in Translational Medicine Quantitative Sciences & Innovation (QSI), you will focus on streaming mobile medical devices, very large multivariate clinical datasets and real-world data (e.g. medical claims). You will be a statistical advisor to research and clinical studies involving mobile medical devices, including power analysis, study design, visualization and statistical reporting. You will contribute to the overall Translational Medicine digital strategy through integration and analysis of next-generation mobile medical device data into current clinical practice. You will also support external communications through scientific publications and health authority interactions. You will work in close collaboration with analysts and data engineers to develop and validate novel methods and software for
data ingestion, integration, analysis and visualization.

LOCATION: Basel (Switzerland) or Cambridge (Massachusetts, USA) - please state in your application letter which location(s) you apply for.

- Advise on current and future digital studies, staying up-to-date with current advanced data analytics both in standard statistics and machine learning
- Hands-on analysis of study data following internal project management guidelines
- Maintain efficient interfaces with internal QSI Biostatisticians and external clinical teams including global clinical statistics
- Program according to good coding practices and ensure internal quality control and reproducibility of deliverables
- Maintain records for projects and archive trail / project analysis and documentation which may involve designing or enhancing data storage system
- Participate in the selection of CROs and supervise QSI project activities performed by CROs
- Train staff on trial and project level activities and internal processes
- Participate in or lead non-clinical activities
- Help proof read statistical analysis plans (SAP), summary reports and presentations for accuracy and clarity
Minimum requirements - Master degree or equivalent advanced education in Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science
- Advanced/fluent English

- 3+ years of relevant professional experience
- Demonstrable expert knowledge of the R programming language and good programming practice (code annotation, version control, etc.)
- Demonstrable leadership in driving scientific analytical plans and methods development
- Demonstrable ability in driving effective communication with cross-functional scientific/clinical teams
- Strong communications skills and used to representing the group you work in across a larger organisation and throughout the wider external community (in this case it will be the scientific community)
- Used to successfully explaining complex ideas to non-experts
- Proven organizational and project management skills

Highly desirable:
- Demonstrable experience working with mobile digital devices
- Demonstrable experience modelling, integrating and comparing a wide range of clinical data types (objective monitoring and assessments, subjective questionnaires, etc.) and sampling rates (daily, monthly, irregular)
- Good understanding of global clinical trial practices, procedures and methodologies
