Postdoctoral Fellow - To investigate the characterization of exposure and metabolic impact using in vitro test systems for toxicological assessment of aerosols

UNLIMIT YOURSELF!

Philip Morris International (PMI) has just launched a new 2-year Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at our state-of-the-art Research & Development (R&D) facility based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland.

Are you up for a challenge? Are you looking for a unique opportunity to work on innovative projects that will significantly enhance your expertise in a corporate environment? And do you want to build an exciting career? Then apply now! We’re currently looking for a:

Postdoctoral Fellow

To investigate the characterization of exposure and metabolic impact using in vitro test systems for toxicological assessment of aerosols

The objective of PMI’s R&D center is to develop and assess products with the potential to reduce the risks of smoking-related diseases. This project is at the core of our business: our vision is that one day all adult smokers who otherwise wouldn’t quit will switch to what we call reduced-risk products, or RRPs*. Get to know more about us on
www.PMIScience.com.

We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist with the following assets:

  • PhD in biochemistry, chemistry or related life sciences discipline
  • Knowledge in biochemistry, metabolomics and chemistry is a must
  • Mass-spectrometry based expertise in the field of metabolomics is required
  • High resolution mass-spectrometry expertise (LC-HRAM-MS) is required
  • Basic experience in bioanalytical method development is a must
  • Experience using 2-dimensional gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (GCxGC-TOFMS) would be beneficial
  • Fluency in English

Working collaboratively with cross-functional research teams, you should be skilled in taking ownership and leading a wide variety of studies, delivering results in a timely manner, and have a clear and effective communication style. If you are also a fast learner, enjoy operating in an inquisitive environment, as well as analyzing complex areas of research to create innovative solutions, then you’re the one we want for our
Postdoctoral Program, within our xenobiotic metabolism team, part of the complex matrix analysis department.

As part of the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, you will play a key role in finding innovative solutions for increasing the value of our scientific evidence packages and ultimately improving speed to the market.

Project accountabilities:

  • Comprehensive analysis for state of the art aerosol characterization
  • Analysis will also apply to tissues/samples that are exposed to aerosol
  • Integration of metabolic data into a transcriptomics and proteomics context is required
  • Establishment of a metabolomics platform
  • Results will also be used by our Systems Toxicology department

*Reduced Risk Products (“RRPs”) is the term we use to refer to products with the potential to reduce individual risk and population harm in comparison to smoking cigarettes. PMI’s RRPs are in various stages of development and commercialization, and we are conducting extensive and rigorous scientific studies to determine whether we can support claims for such products of reduced exposure to harmful and potentially harmful constituents in smoke, and ultimately claims of reduced disease risk, when compared to smoking cigarettes. Before making any such claims, we will rigorously evaluate the full set of data from the relevant scientific studies to determine whether they substantiate reduced exposure or risk. Any such claims may also be subject to government review and authorization, as is the case in the USA today
