Development of microfluidic interfaces for the characterization of nanomaterials
The proposed H2020 EU project ACEnano (Analytical and Characterization Excellence in nanomaterial risk assessment) aims at developing a holistic analytical framework for reproducible NM characterization, spanning from initial needs assessment through method selection to data interpretation and storage. The result will be an innovative and adaptive mechanistic 21st century risk assessment framework (based on grouping and read-across) that can keep pace with market and product innovation and facilitate prediction of NMs impacts and implementation of safe by design strategies and support regulation.
Within the project, your responsibility will be to implement different interfaces between various nanomaterial samples and analytical instruments. More specifically, you will have to design and develop different microfluidic modules allowing seamless introduction of samples with physico-chemical characterization tools like nanoparticle tracking analyzer, fluid flow fractionation, ICP-MS. As part of a large consortium of academic and industrial partners, you will act as a technology expert to gather requirements from nanomaterial scientists, instruments manufacturers and regulators. Being a member of a European project, you will have to follow a defined schedule and deliver results on time to project partners.
You have a PhD degree in Applied Physics, Micro-Nanotechnologies, Biophysics or similar, with a required solid knowledge in nanomaterial sciences. You have a strong interest in an interdisciplinary project that combines microfluidics, material science and knowledge in system engineering. You are a creative and innovative personality. You have the ability to work autonomously, but you are also willing to integrate an experienced project team. You have excellent English speaking and writing skills, knowledge of German would be an asset.
