Based in Kempinski's Headquarters in Geneva, we are looking for a

                                                       Director Corporate Communications


The mission of Corporate Communications is to create goodwill and an excellent reputation for the Kempinski group and associated businesses through a consistent positioning of the brand and group, and support communication efforts towards all stakeholders: Owners, investors, suppliers, partners, and staff.

This position is responsible for initiating, managing and coordinating the group’s Corporate Communications, translating the group’s strategy and communicating this to all stakeholders, supported by the Corporate Communications team, and leading the positioning of Kempinski as a leading luxury brand, leading hospitality management group and preferred employer, and ensuring that Corporate Communications efforts are globally consistent and accurate.

The Director is an effective business partner for the group’s senior management (Management Board, specifically the CEO, Corporate SVPs and VPs) in positioning the group, vision, mission, strategy as well as group or departmental programmes both internally and externally as appropriate, thereby adding value to the brand and group.

The Director supports and guides senior management on the most effective communication tools to position the group, group or functional strategy and key messages. Corporate senior management interviews or public speaking opportunities are conducted by Corporate Communications.

The Director will work closely with the Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing, and Corporate PR to ensure seamless messaging, and will provide guidance on group topics as defined by Corporate Communications, such as the Kempinski brand, group vision, mission, strategy, programmes and initiatives, performance, employer branding, and crisis communications.

Specifically in the event of crisis communications, the Director is directly responsible for the overall coordination, sign off on content and instructions to relevant departments as to distribution channels for any statements, as well as the appointment of any spokespersons.

The Director will lead specific group-wide projects to optimise Corporate Communications activities and best practices to the benefit of the group with all stakeholders, including but not limited to:

  • Crisis communications – tools include a full suite of manual and templates, and online training modules created with Lobster
  • Internal communications (working closely with the VP Information Technology on internal communication platforms, and with other Department Heads to fulfil their functional needs for communications) – tools include corporate conference call, myKempinski
  • External communications - tools include corporate press kit, executive photography, corporate presentation, FAQs and briefings for industry events or interviews

The Director will contribute to specific group-wide projects including but not limited to:

  • Employer Branding (working closely with Human Resources) – tools include People Brochure
  • Employee engagement  (working closely with Human Resources)
  • DNA (Kempinski’s corporate culture management programme) – tools include People Brochure, training materials and online training modules created with Lobster
  • Brand - tools include corporate press kit, corporate presentation
  • Owners Relations – tools include annual Owners News and quarterly Owners Newsletter, seasonal greetings
  • Investor Relations – tools include Development Brochure, company profile, and Investors Newsletter
  • Shareholder relations – tools include quarterly Board presentations
  • Communications advice to Associated Businesses as needed


The job of Director Corporate Communications is executed satisfactorily when:

1.         Strategy, planning and budget:

  • An annual Corporate Communications strategy and plan is defined
  • An annual Corporate Communications budget is defined according to the annual strategy and plan
  • An annual hotel internal communications budget applicable for each hotel, existing and new opening, is defined according to the annual strategy and plan, working closely with the Corporate PR, Human Resources and Training teams, to be included in the annual Budget Instructions
  • Ensure internal and external compliance with overall group messaging on portfolio milestones of signature, substantial completion, handover, or termination (working closely with Legal, Operations and Development)
  • Work closely with Strategic Planning to support the communications regarding the implementation of Kempinski’s strategic roadmap at all levels of the group and with hotel owners, support their key messaging


2.         Corporate Communications tools:

  • Continue the implementation of the Crisis Communications programme for the group and oversee or directly instruct at a regional and hotel level as appropriate for the level and type of crisis
  • Support senior management with key messages for articles, features, interviews and public speaking opportunities
  • Disseminate relevant communications about the group and its activities internally and externally
  • Ensure that hotel openings, management agreement signatures and terminations are accurately communicated, working with the relevant departments as necessary
  • Ensure that an up-to-date Corporate Communications toolkit (internal and external) is maintained for the group and senior management, for example including group information, profiles, corporate publications and briefing kits
  • Ensure that up-to-date Corporate Publications and Presentations are provided to the group, for example the Company Profile, Owners News and Corporate presentation


3.         Talent development for the Corporate Communications team:

  • Manage the Corporate Communications team in all aspects
  • Conduct annual assessments of the team according to Kempinski and local legal requirements of the Corporate Communications team


4.         Improve group’s Corporate Communications skills:

  • Ensure the Crisis Communications training programme and related Crisis Communications manual are implemented effectively throughout the group
  • Ensure appropriate and advanced media skills training is provided to each member of senior management to ensure their ability to represent the group
  • Contribute group information and messaging for Kempinski’s online social collaboration platform
  • Work closely with the corporate Department Heads to identify their internal communication objectives and support their key messaging
  • Work closely with Human Resources and Training to increase employee engagement
  • Work closely with Human Resources and PR to position Kempinski as a the employer of choice, support their key messaging and identify case studies

5.         Consolidation and evaluation of Corporate Communications strategy and plans:

  • Consolidate and evaluate on a quarterly basis the performance of Corporate and Communications versus strategy, plans and budget

6.         Participate in corporate and regional projects as appropriate and requested

Additional objectives and responsibilities can be added at any time, depending on the need of the business.


The team includes also a Director of Corporate Communications (50% Corporate Communications, 50% Public Relations), based in Germany, and a Corporate Communications Coordinator, based in Geneva. both roles are reporting to the Director Corporate Communication. 


The ideal profile of the candidate includes the following:



Graduate in journalism, communications or public relations




10 years experience in corporate and internal communications gained either in-house or agency

Experience in travel and tourism, public safety, food and beverage, healthcare are highly desirable

Luxury industry experience an advantage



Ability to work and communicate in a multinational environment:

      English – perfect oral and written skills


       German - good oral and written skills an advantage




Experience working with top management to achieve their business objectives, capable of defining what communications can deliver


Experience designing and implementing communication strategies for internal stakeholders, including group strategy

Experience adapting communications to various stakeholder needs: hotel owners, potential owners and investors, employees, potential employees


Experience contributing to a group’s intranet or similar


Experience in supporting employer branding efforts


Ability to manage the communication response around fast-moving, sensitive issues or crises, and protect the brand reputation and values


Good networker and influencer


Ability to work across different organizational levels, regions and countries


Culturally aware, mature, discreet and diplomatic


Ability to grasp the core issues at stake and summarise accurately


Precise and thorough, attention to detail and accuracy of facts, writing copy and proofreading to ensure total consistency of language, message and information


Understanding of the requirements of a premium brand and the different stakeholder needs



Word, Excel, Powerpoint


Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator an advantage
