This is a rare opportunity to join the EU Analytics team with significant responsibility as a Senior Economist for delivering Pricing Analytics across UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. The EU business analytics team provides actionable insight to the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain businesses and provides support for pan-EU functions – the analytics team mirrors this structure. This Senior Economist role reports to the Head of EU Pricing Analytics and supports the EU Marketplace Businesses by developing price elasticity models actionable insights to support the EU Monetization business unit.

Job Requirements:

This role will lead the team in developing the tools to provide a deeper understanding of supply/demand drivers and opportunities mainly focused on Monetization Strategy, Seller Segmentation and Performance, and provide the business with short term and long term Pricing levers to drive Revenue growth


- Support Business Decision making through data driven Actionable Insights,

- Develop econometric models to support EU Monetization strategy, build reduced-form models to estimate supply/demand/pricing elasticities

- Develop seller tests to improve our knowledge of price elasticity to enable new scenarios to be built.

- Partner with Central Finance to provide opportunities to close revenue gaps

- Analyze B2C rate card and suggest opportunities for new offerings

- Work with Business Partners to scope analysis to answer key business questions – challenge their thinking and become a trusted business partner. Help the business prioritise analytical deliverables and manage their expectations

- Targeting for pricing and CRM Promotions (UK and Europe) across range of seller segments

- Consult on cross-functional projects within EU Analytics teams, lending knowledge and expertise, coaching other Analytics team members on statistics & econometrics

- Identify, extract and analyse relevant information from multiple data sources (primarily Teradata)

- Be the Customer: Buy, Sell and Engage with eBay’s mission of connected commerce

- An established analytical career as a Data Scientist/BI/Insight Analyst preferably within an e-commerce, litigation, consumer web, retail, media, digital marketing or consultancy environment
- PHD in Economics/Econometrics or equivalent, subject matter expert in statistics & econometrics (supply/demand/pricing). Able to build reduced form models to estimate supply/demand/pricing elasticities. Experience in structural modeling a plus
- Proven ability in clearly defining a problem, collating the required information, analysing the results and presenting findings and recommendations
- Strong technical and financial modelling skills with commercial business acumen
- Experienced and proficient with tools needed to manipulate large data sets such as Python, SQL, Stats, R (preferred) & Excel. Advanced level skills in SQL and Tableau highly desirable.

- Experience of working with Big Data, including data extraction & optimization techniques, and reporting/visualization, in particular using data visualization tools is a plus

- Fluency in English is a requirement

- Excellent collaboration skills, team-work, and influencing business outcomes across a matrixed environment
- Frequent travel between Zurich/Bern & London, occasional travel to Berlin
