Caritas Switzerland prevents, alleviates and combats poverty in Switzerland and worldwide in more than 20 countries. It is an independent association with its head office in Lucerne. The aid agency is a member of the international Caritas network. Since the 1970s, Caritas Switzerland has been operating in Sudan and South Sudan with own structures. The country office is based in Torit, Eastern Equatoria State, with interventions in the fields of WASH, education & income, humanitarian aid, climate/DRR, migration and food security the region.
Due to a vacancy we are seeking for a Country Director for our office in South Sudan.
Strategic allignment and planning of Caritas Switzerland interventions according to current developments in South Sudan and the organizations approaches
Responsibility for the implementation of all projects within the country programme; ensuring monitoring & evaluation of field and office work; guiding project administration and coordination
Supporting the preparation of project proposals and reports for submission to the Caritas headquarter and back donors
Representing Caritas Switzerland interests with partners, government and donor agencies
Maintaining relationships and networks with donors, international and national agencies; international and local NGOs and communities
Identifying and pursuing funding opportunities to sustain the country programme
Managing and supervising the team of fourty local and international employees
Guiding national and international personnel including general human resource management, staff management and development
Assuring finance and office management, including administrative and financial responsibilities and budgeting
Maintaining, developing and operationalizing standard operational procedures of the Country Office
Communicating with Caritas Switzerland office in Nairobi and Caritas Switzerland Head Office (Senior Programme Manager)
Master degree in project management, economics, international relations or similar field; a post graduate qualification is an advantage
5 years experience in a senior management position and strong leadership skills, further professional experience in a similar position is a strong asset
5 years work experience in international cooperation (for governmental or non-governmental agencies), from which at least 4 years as project manager or similar position
Field work experience including track record in fragile contexts
Proven track record in organisational development and finance management
Staff management experience
Proven ability in successful proposal as well as report writing
Mastery of IT tools (MS Office package, Internet, E-mail etc.)
Proficiency in English, knowledge of German is an asset but not a requirement
Sensitiveness for security issues and experience in complex security settings
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with analytic approach
Strong team player with good leadership skills
Good communication skills oral and written
Knowledge of the South Sudanese or East African context is an added value
Flexible, innovative and sensitive to different cultural backgrounds
Your place of work will be Torit, Eastern Equatoria State, South Sudan (non family location).
Starting date: 1st December 2016 or by agreement
