Manager Media Relations
For our Corporate Communications department, based in Zurich, Switzerland, we are looking for a Media Relations Manager.
The job holder is a member of the media relations team to support certain aspects of the Group strategy and the achievement of the company's business objectives to ensure a global, positive, coherent, and credible image both in terms of content and form to promote role as the most advanced group in its sector.
This role will be responsible for media engagement on certain non-financial topics and to support the more senior members of the team in managing enquiries as well as a point-of-entry for enquiries of certain media, ensuring their effective management. A key component of the role will be taking over social media management. Topics that could be covered include, sustainable development, human resources and research and development. This role is expected to work with the media proactively and reactively and be ready to anticipate potential issues with the media. They are expected to work with sensitive information and be ready to work flexibly.
The job holder will work with countries to ensure effective communication with the media from the Group's businesses around the world. This could include development of press releases, support with media in crisis scenarios, media monitoring, media training, deployment of media policies, amongst others. This role is also responsible to manage external suppliers, including media monitoring or translation agencies.
The job holder will also be expected to work closely with peers within and outside the function, to ensure that value creation from all work engaged is maximized and a comprehensive level of support is ensured for the entire organization.
Level of education/qualifications normally required:
Degree / Master degree equivalent (Bachelor's Degree in Business, English, Communications, or Journalism a plus).
Specific work experience:
At least 3 years' experience in Communications
Demonstrable experience of media relations in an international environment.
Experience in industry and in working in matrix organizations
Technical / functional skills:
Personal communication skills, including strong competencies (writing, presenting, project management etc)
Good understanding of economic and business areas and of the organization of a multinational company and of the building material sector and its issues
Knowledge and implementation capacity of the various tools of press relations: press releases, press conferences, press trips, etc.
Be familiar with all relevant social media platforms
Personal initiative as well as outstanding interpersonal, teamwork, listening and verbal skills.
Flexibility in terms of agenda and responsiveness
Discretion and caution.
Negotiation and strategic skills with the ability to work in an evolving environment and balance the needs of various internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfilment of commitments; ensure an ambassador role in the field of health & safety.
Ability to work with all types of profiles and stakeholders (colleagues of different hierarchical level, business and functional units, other companies, NGOs, governments, think tanks, etc.)
Proven capability to manage paradoxes and ambiguity: adaptability, listening and diplomacy.
Leadership and managerial abilities:
Judgment on autonomy and team-working.
Ability to manage external agencies and subcontractors (as required).
Ability to make sound judgments.
Ability to challenge and counsel management on communications.
German and English – fluent (spoken and written).
Any additional language skills, particularly French is a plus.
Mobility requirements (time spent travelling internationally, nationally etc.):
Up to 20% of the time spent travelling internationally.
