Research Assistant - Research Division (50%)

The Research Division is seeking a part-time Research Assistant working directly under the Head of Division. The position commences on 1 December 2016(or a mutually agreed date).

Main responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Division, the Research Assistant provides research, editing and technical support as follows:

  • Conduct targeted research on issues relevant to security sector governance and reform;
  • Draft and compile information based on research findings;
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations, briefings and courses;
  • Assist in the reviewing, editing and layout of publications;
  • Perform other tasks as required.



  • Doctoral/graduate student, preferably in  political science/international  affairs;
  • English mother tongue or fluency in English is essential, other languages highly desirable;
  • Outstanding research, writing and analytical skills, including the ability to process and analyse data;
  • Strong attention to detail and proven ability to review, edit and layout texts suitable for publication;
  • Demonstrated understanding of security sector governance and reform; familiarity with the work of international organizations and with international security and development policy discourses;
  • Excellent IT skills; other relevant skills, including strong organizational abilities, communication skills, ability  to  work  under  time  pressure  and  with  strict deadlines, ability to work independently and with others in an international environment;
  • Swiss or EU citizenship or a valid work permit.

The weekly working time is 20 hours. The salary is in line with requirements for this position. DCAF is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from women.
