Job Description


The Innovation Engineer will support the Innovation Manager in identifying market disruptions and their consequences for Eaton, the Commercial Readiness Level of innovation and driving the agile deployment (following the Lean Startup method) of identified Eaton new answers to customers’ needs.
The Innovation Engineer will be responsible for analyzing the dynamics in our markets, identifying the areas where new technologies or business models are threatening the existing equilibrium, and driving the creation of our response in close cooperation with BUs, CRTs and other internal stakeholders.
He/She will support the work on building relationship with universities and on 3rd party funded project, and monitor incoming technology and its possible impacts.
The Innovation Engineer will also directly contribute to innovation projects as and when needed.


A. Supports the Innovation manager in monitoring economic and societal trends, technologies altering the economics of materials, manufacturing or components, as well as emerging domains of technology including manufacturing, communication or computing technologies.
B. Supports with the Innovation manager on market dynamics analysis leveraging Diffusion / Maturity / Visibility maps (e.g. Wardley maps) and 5-Forces, to help identify what offers Eaton should focus on and where we should partner / stop investing.
C. Works with targeted universities and research institutes to continuously build our relationship.
D. Helps in the preparation of innovation workshops and actively participates.
E. Trains and coaches people involved with innovation on the Lean Startup method and ensures its systematic GOOD and ACTUAL use (not just lip service).
F. Directly contributes to innovation project as and when needed, bringing his/her engineering experience and knowledge, as well as hands-on contribution and enthusiasm, to important projects.
G. Assists the Innovation manager in building business cases to justify gradual investment in innovation ideas.
H. Supports the Innovation manager in representing Eaton in the Open Source movement, ensuring we are recognized as a bona fide contributor and keep abreast of opportunities and emerging threats.

Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements)
  • An insatiable curiosity and strong persistence are the main prerequisites for this position.
  • Knowledge of agile innovation frameworks and methods such as Lean Startup, of market analysis tools and a good understanding of data & analytics -enabled businessed.
  • Knowledge of buildings, energy and / or industry markets, and preferably of the electrical markets.
  • Experience in working with Academia and partners to bring innovations to markets.
  • Knowledge in modern Information Technology a big plus.
  • Education: PhD or Master degree in Engineering. MBA or other training in marketing and finance a plus. However, we welcome candidates with a different background if they can demonstrate an innovation track record.
  • Minimum experience: 2-3 years of experience in innovation, product development and commercialization. Startup experience a plus.
  • Fluency in English required, with additional two languages preferred.
