About the role

As Atmospheric Perils Specialist you will be part of the catastrophe perils department which is responsible for Swiss Re's global natural catastrophe perils risk assessment and related client services. The department advances cutting-edge probabilistic and proprietary modeling technology for windstorm, earthquakes and flood hazards, with a clear business mandate to grow Swiss Re's competitive edge in close cooperation with Swiss Re's underwriters and clients.

In the role as Natural Perils Specialist, your responsibilities will be to:
• Develop, maintain, improve, expand, distribute and train natural catastrophe (NatCat) models
• Ensure availability and quality of NatCat products, consulting and support throughout the Group
• Represent NatCat topics in in/external meetings, selling of NatCat services to clients
• Stay abreast of Nat Cat related science
• Work effectively within Cat Perils teams in different Hubs


About the team

You will be embedded in a team of 45 members, located in Zurich, Munich, New York, and Bangalore which covers a wide range of natural science, engineering and actuarial disciplines. Your home base is in the Europe Hub in Zurich. You get in-depth exposure to Swiss Re's proprietary natural perils model platform and to Swiss Re's natural catastrophe reinsurance business.


About You

• Degree in natural science discipline or engineering, ideally with outstanding knowledge in atmospheric perils,
• Prior working experience in insurance or reinsurance is a plus
Scientific and economical curiosity, combined with strong analytical and quantitative skills
• Leadership and management potential, significant social competence, strong communication skills
• Ability to manage time and accept pragmatic solutions in order to complete multiple tasks in a timely manner
• Selling and negotiation skills
• Programming experience, preferably with Matlab; strong MS Office user
• At ease with team work and communication in a global firm
• Strong motivation to learn about reinsurance
• Fluent in English, German and additional language skills advantageous
