About the role

Our Political Risk Management (PRM) Team is currently looking for a political risk analyst who will support the team in performing it's risk control functions for specific lines of business, including political risk exposure monitoring and accumulation control in select areas (i.e., non-credit Political Risk Insurance), and in offering political risk support for other risk controllers. You also support the further development of PRM's mandate through mutually reinforcing activities in political risk controlling and analysis. In addition, you assist senior analysts in re/insurance-relevant applied research that can inform risk identification, selection, and modelling in support of risk controllers and other functions.

Main tasks and activities:
• Monitoring political and economic developments across all countries in which Swiss Re is active
• Supporting senior risk analysts in political risk assessments on country developments, transnational issues, or issues of strategic relevance to Swiss Re
• Continuous exposure monitoring and accumulation control for all risk exposures under PRM's responsibility and preparing regular exposure reports
• Supporting PRM's quantitative approach to political risks and associated exposures by collecting, processing, and analyzing data (including statistical analyses)
• Updating political risk ratings and maintaining PRM's IT platform
• Supporting the team in effective internal risk reporting actions
• Performing reviews of relevant academic and policy literature
• Assisting senior risk analysts in various projects, initiatives, and presentations


About the team

Political Risk Management identifies and manages political risks that could potentially affect the Group's underwriting, assets, and operations, as well as the overall business environment.


About You

• A minimum of 3 years of professional experience
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant social science (for example, political science, international affairs, public policy or economics), including solid training in social sciences methodology
• Practical experience in analyzing political and/or economic developments (in the private sector, think tanks, NGOs, or government)
• Excellent writing skills and ability to express complex ideas in a concise and articulate manner
• Strong (quantitative) research and data processing skills, including very good knowledge of Excel
• Experience in risk management/control in the financial services industry strongly preferred
• Knowledge of statistical software/programming language (e.g., Stata, R) preferred
• Knowledge of and experience in re-/insurance preferred
• Strong team player with willingness to share information and knowledge
• Proficiency in English
