Technical Accountant

Job Summary:

The Technical Accountant will be based in our London or Zurich office and will be involved in supporting the International A&H Operations Department.

The role is mainly to support the International Reinsurance team, primarily to ensure that the recording of all financial transactions are carried out in an accurate and timely manner  and in accordance with the defined AXIS processes.  The technician will also be required from time to time to assist with related administrative duties including quality control, document filing and process change.

The A&H product line is initially focused on group insurance and reinsurance and includes business and leisure travel accident, accidental death & dismemberment and expatriate coverages, as well as other traditional A&H products (e.g. catastrophic medical, accident and sickness coverage).

Key Duties & Responsibilities:      

  • Identification, validation, and processing of technical statements of account for all types of business including Proportional and Non Proportional Treaty business and FAC Business
  • Handling of financial transactions related to statements of accounts, reconciliation of broker statements, reminder process
  • Facilitate and issue payment requests
  • Supporting month end and quarter end close by assuring high levels of data quality on client reporting figures, actively participate in close process with GAAP aging reporting, comment on aged debt reports, work closely with Finance, handle queries from management, Finance Dublin, external and internal auditors)
  • Project work: e.g. system upgrades
  • Investigate, chase and resolve aged debt issues
  • Ability to check contracts and slips, and processing from a quality and technical perspective
  • Assist with the documentation and maintenance of our process procedures and operations manuals
  • Liaise with brokers, TPA’s and insured’s when required
  • Problem solving, investigate and manage resolution through TPA’s or other Axis departments

Required Education/Training & Experience:      

  • Extensive reinsurance background, preferably with Accident and Health experience.
  • Strong organisational skills, team working competence and attention to detail.
  • Take ownership of problems and manage this through to completion
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Intermediate level MS Word, Excel
  • High degree of initiative and flexibility
