About This Job:

The purpose of this position is to manage a packaging portfolio as well as the development, modification and implementation of packaging solutions. The incumbent provides expert input and consultancy advice in the area of packaging information and data handling for the business, internal and external packaging sites, pack purchasing as well as registration. He/she inputs packaging data within defined Syngenta operating systems, ensuring packaging compliance as well as data accuracy.


  • Drive the technical development and optimization projects within the given packaging portfolio
  • Run new pack designs in support of product initiatives, packaging design and performance enhancements and promotional activities
  • Establish testing programs for new or modified packages with regards to Syngenta performance standards and legal compliance. Assure compliance of packs with transport regulations
  • Conduct the range addition and data management activities associated with packaging portfolio, and issue packaging relevant documentation such as specifications, bill of materials and packaging instructions
  • Work in partnership with purchasing and production departments to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed packaging
  • Initiate and coordinate packaging line trials at appropriate Manufacturing/Co-manufacturing/Co-packing facilities to ensure performance validation of packaging structure and/or packaging design
  • Continuously evaluate new packaging materials/packaging systems for application to company current and future products - make recommendations to the business for appropriate changes
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for rationalization and improvements, e.g. to reduce packaging costs
  • In collaboration with purchasing co-defines the sourcing strategy, select and validate packaging suppliers


Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Several years of experience in the area of packaging engineering is a plus (advantageous in the area of dangerous goods)
  • In-depth knowledge of packaging, material compatibility and technologies related to development, testing and implementation of new product packaging and delivery system. Understanding of the packaging markets and its drivers

Qualifications and skills:

  • Master of Science or Engineering degree in packaging engineering or similar education
  • Excellent project management skills with ability to apply respective project management tools
  • Fluent in English, any additional language an advantage
  • Strong communication skills to interface with various business and operation groups
  • Creativity and problem solving
