About This Job:
  • To supervise the services provided by a contracted Platform Service Supplier to a global service platform, which comprises of a number of services and systems (mainly Planisware tools) that support key business processes and related technologies, critical to the success of R&D strategy within the R&D Portfolio Management Area and R&D Functional Planning (e.g. Field Trialing)
  • To identify synergies within the services of the platform and work closely with the stakeholders to implement strategies to enable realisation of potential benefits and reduction of platform total cost of ownership
  • Act as a liaison between the Platform Service Supplier and the R&D organization to ensure communication between R&D IS stakeholders and the platform support supplier
  • To be a Platform Manager in the widest sense – constantly seeking to improve the platform brand, full application lifecycle management, supplier and exploitation management of their Platform and involved Products in accordance to R&D IS policies and procedures
  • Overall monitor the platform service levels. Initiate the planning and execution of periodic process and supplier Audits to validate specific aspects of the service and be accountable for feedbacks to service supplier and corrective follow up action if required.
  • Service Strategy
    • Management of the brand of the platform by closely monitoring the provided service level for the platform and initiate improvements and corrective action if needed. Act as the second escalation point for any platform related issues for both business and service supplier.
    • Understand the business strategy and direction for the platform and translate it into the impact on the Product Roadmap and provides steer to the operational board
    • Work with the business owners to ensure that the platform services are in line with business case and the expected benefits are realised. Initiate improvement actions if needed.
    • Work with the supplier platform manager to support and monitor development and maintenance of long term roadmap for the Platform, aligned with R&D IS strategy.
    • Provide strategic directions on overall Product Life Cycle of products within the platform in coordination with Supplier Platform Manager (include new products, decommission old products).
    • Prepare platform budget in cooperation with the Supplier platform Manager and manage budget approval processes. Monitor budget spent in the Platform to secure predictable service delivery to agreed levels of service at a predictable cost for the platform.
  • Monitor the Service Design processes as managed by the Platform Service Provider for the best interest of the customer and in line with the agreed SLA.
  • Monitor Service Transition including Transition Planning and Support, Change Management, Service Asset & Configuration Management, Release and Deployment Management, Service Validation, Evaluation, and Knowledge Management
  • Ensure consistent Service Operation is in place and executed by the Platform Service Provider for the products in the Platform, including Event Management, Incident Management , Request Fulfilment, Problem Management , and Access Management (Work with Purchasing / IS Security to ensure license and policy compliance of Products)

Experience required
  • Experience in the field of R&D portfolio management and R&D functional planning
  • Experience in managing external suppliers
  • Experience in leading an IT operations team of 2 to 6 people
  • Several years of experience in working within or close to R&D within Syngenta or other strongly R&D oriented company
  • Previous direct experience in a customer focused delivery management / service management role (or can show understanding of the needs and demands of such a role)
  • Several years of experience in working on information systems and/or information management processes associated with a commercial organisation
  • Experience in working across countries and cultures in order to achieve solutions, including with external vendors

Critical knowledge

  • Good working knowledge of the Planisware technology
  • Good working knowledge of one or more existing Products and business domains in R&D relevant to the Platform
  • Awareness of current best practice in service / application management (a relevant professional qualification such as ITIL foundation or ITIL expert or an intention to gain this would be useful)
  • A good grasp of the culture and working practices of both IS and R&D stakeholders and an understanding of the value R&D gain from the using the product

Additional information

  • May need to travel from time to time between the R&D sites globally
