RoleManage all indirect tax related topics including VAT and customs duties for Ferring Group companies operating in Switzerland and in Europe (approximately 35 VAT registration numbers in 20 countries). This includes providing guidelines and assistance in all types of local and cross border transactions concerning goods and services and driving pan-regional indirect tax alignment improvement initiatives.
Actively contribute to execute day to day tasks within the Tax department. Give support to local and international finance colleagues and assume polyvalence for indirect tax compliance activities. The role will also potentially require support with centralisation of indirect tax compliance responsibilities from a number of local entities in Europe to a central team located in Switzerland.

Main Responsibilities

  • Overall management of Indirect tax compliance obligations of the company in Switzerland and Europe, i.e. assistance with preparation/reconciliation and timely submission of VAT/Intrastat returns and EC Sales listings
  • Manage all ad hoc indirect tax queries from local sites, external consultants and/or internal colleagues. This includes any custom duty queries received from internal or external partners
  • Manage any requests from the tax authorities in all jurisdictions and take full responsibility for any indirect tax audits triggered by the tax authorities
  • Creation, development & management of the indirect tax compliance team & manage any external partner service offer
  • Drive process improvements for indirect taxes in respect of the ERP system and determination of test scripts in case of ERP VAT codification changes
  • Define and implement cross company process improvements in respect of the indirect tax compliance process
  • Provide regular indirect tax training to relevant colleagues within the Ferring organisation
Required Experience & SkillsWe place great emphasis on the candidates’ personality, which should include a high personal drive and the ability to take initiative, service orientation, strong business and operations understanding, with strong planning and organizing skills.
At least 10 years VAT experience in a similar industry is a requirement to be considered for this role and it is a further advantage to have previous experience in the pharmaceutical industry. It would also be an advantage if you have additional accountancy/financial background.
You must be passionate about VAT, about delivering a quality service to colleagues, have a genuine interest in finance/accounting and have experience with managing relationships with external stakeholders such as the “Big 4”. Specific key requirements are as follows;
  • Accounting/finance/business degree with 10-15 years experience gained from a previous VAT managerial role
  • Fluency in English is essential and ability to speak French an advantage
  • Be able to demonstrate strong listening and communication skills both written and oral
  • Strong attention to detail is also essential
  • Ability to work effectively to deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively in a team based environment and effectively manage a team of at least three people
  • Ability to manage and organize own workload
  • Ability to handle many tasks simultaneously and set priorities
  • ERP knowledge is essential and Oracle experience is a key advantage
