ISB is currently seeking an Accounting and Finance Manager who will assume oversight of all financial accounting and management accounting activities of the school and provide effective leadership to Finance Team members. This position reports to the Director of Operations.
The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter, have good technical knowledge, willingness to work hands-on and have previous successful experience in managing a small team. Excellent organizational, accounting and people management skills are required.
The Manager will be expected to be able to take ownership of problems, identify solutions and break down the components of a problem in order to facilitate understanding and resolution. He/She will have an inherent interest in operational efficiency and maximizing financial performance.
It will be necessary to adjust communication appropriately for changes in priorities and to present ideas in a logical manner. A willingness to work cooperatively with staff, parents and external personnel is essential. In order to meet these expectations, effective and professional-level verbal and written communication and negotiation skills in both German and English are required.
Accounting and Finance Manager
In charge of the General Ledger and the integrity and accuracy of financial bookkeeping records in compliance with regulations;
Responsible for year-end closing, the preparation of Annual Financial Statements in line with Swiss law and the year-end statutory audit;
In charge of controlling processes by preparing regular internal reports to aid the decision-making of other school departments and the school management;
Supports the Director of Operations in the development and management of the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes;
Analysis of accounting records and timely elevation of issues when noted;
Manages the cash collection process and monitors cash flow via the periodical preparation of cash flow statements and budgets;
Internal Control System (ICS): develop, review and maintain accounting and reporting procedures to comply with internal control requirements;
Prepares quarterly VAT returns;
Identifies and recommends methods to improve financial and operational procedures;
Trains, mentors and appraises members of the Finance Team (5 people of which 3 are in accounting and 2 are in purchasing);
Ensures effective team work and communication between members of the Finance Team and the other departments of the school;
Liaises with school staff (teachers, management, other departments) and external agencies as and where required;
Participates in training, other learning activities and performance development as required;
Carries out additional activities, as requested, in line with the general expectations of this job description.
Education, Experience and Skills:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related subject area;
Professional certification in Accounting (such as Swiss Experte in Rechnungslegung und Controlling, Diplomierter Wirtschaftsprüfer, ACCA, CPA etc.) strongly desired;
Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role, in charge of financial accounting while managing a small team;
Proven success in providing effective leadership and staff development;
Knowledge and experience with Swiss law and financial regulations including Internal Control Systems;
Experience with financial accounting software is required (previous experience with SAGE 200 is advantageous);
Demonstrated skills and previous experience in financial planning, process management, budget management and effective deployment of resources;
Native tongue level German with business level English, both verbal and written;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to motivate, negotiate, influence and network;
Detail-oriented with excellent analytical, organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills;
Excellent ICT skills and a knowledge of their effective use to support business functions;
Ability to understand, adapt and empathise with social and cultural diversity;
Ability to maintain confidentiality, to exercise sound judgment and to work with tact and discretion;
Demonstrated reliability in current position including an excellent attendance record;
Must be free of physical limitations that would exclude performance of any of the above tasks;
Able to demonstrate flexibility, reliability and initiative in support of all job and ISB related activities.
