HSBC GPB Discretionary Management is looking for an investment analyst to join their Equity Investment Team.
The candidate’s primary task will be to support portfolio managers (PM) in screening the global equity investment universe for various investment strategies:
Carry out financial analysis to understand companies’ competitive position, corporate and business strategy, short and longer term business and financial trends, relative valuation metrics
Study economic and business trends affecting macro environment, geographical regions, specific industries and equity market cycles
Build investment cases and make recommendations to PMs, being able to position ideas and articulate risks or payoffs
Prepare investment meetings with external sell-side analysts and investable companies’ management
Furthermore, the investment analyst will play a progressive role as a junior portfolio manager:
Back-up senior PMs on bespoke mandates derived from the standard strategies managed by the team
Ensure investment insight for equity strategies sourced from other expertise centers within HSBC Global Private Bank
Monitor client portfolios for performance, appropriateness and internal restrictions
Finally, emphasizing business development, the position will require dealing with a broad variety of tasks such as:
Deliver pro-active, high quality communication and service to our internal and external stakeholders e.g. relationship managers, investment counselors, existing & potential clients, internal control
Assess client needs, experience, expectations and risk tolerance to defined appropriate investment vehicle and help build investment proposal
Perform periodic “ad hoc” reviews of individual portfolios
Performance of mandates
Contribute to increase Equity AuM and penetration through pro-active service to RM / IC
Help define / adjust / broaden equity product offering
Customers / Stakeholders
Internal RM & IC & support functions
Leadership & Teamwork
Team player within the unit and group

The jobholder is required to adhere with the Group Policy and Compliance guidance.
He/she should work closely with Compliance and take pre-emptive measures to reduce/mitigate potential operational risk.
He/she should pay attention to marketing activities encompassing local and cross border selling restrictions.
Observation of Internal Controls
Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy.
Certifications, Qualifications & Experience
Minimum 4-5 years’ experience in equity markets, as a generalist or sector/country investment specialist with a proven track record gained within the Global Markets / Private Banking/Asset Management business
Client-focused, with solid sales, analytic, technical, teamwork and relationship building skills
Strong communication and presentation (written and oral) skills
Sound judgment, keen sense of urgency, motivation and high level of professional and personal integrity
MBA or CFA preferred
Equity portfolio management experience would be a plus
English and French fluent, another language would be a plus
