For our Strategic Innovation Group Consumer Care based in Lausanne, Switzerland, we are currently looking for a:
Analytical Senior Scientist
In this challenging and dynamic role, you will be part of the Global Product Development team and report to the Technical Category Senior Manager indirectly leading analytical scientists responsible for delivering innovative products aligned with the Consumer GBU. Your core mission will be to work in collaboration with Product development teams and other functions on innovation projects ranging from gaining fundamental technical understanding/characterization of the formulation and its ingredients, to proof of principle, full development and market. You will be responsible for the development of analytical control strategies (including stability testing) throughout development until the transfer to commercial production.
Further duties & responsibilities include:
  • Lead and manage all analytical activities within a global project team (e. g. specification setting, method development and validation, stability and release testing, issuing CoA..);
  • Accountable to meet quality, timelines and budget for assigned projects and to Manage interactions with internal and external stakeholders, including outsourced activities;
  • Provide input, consultation, review and guidance to support product registration. Authoring of CMC documents to support regulatory submission (e.g. eCTD, PIF…);
  • Provide input into due diligence on licensing and business development opportunities;
  • Develop strong, collaborative relationships with other departments/groups and fosters an environment of knowledge sharing. Actively participate to analytical network meetings to exchange knowledge and information on analytical techniques, problem solving, ideas and to provide technical leadership and direction to the analytical community;
  • Maintains awareness of scientific knowledge by keeping current on literature and by monitoring & meeting regularly with analytical suppliers; attends scientific meetings and symposiums to ensure analytical development for the Consumer Care strategic innovation group stays at the leading edge of trends and technologies;
  • Ensure the distribution of lessons learned and scientific know-how within and across analytical teams;
  • Ensure strong contribution to advance science, technology and innovation within analytical network;
  • Help develop an environment that supports and nurtures scientific understanding and innovation among the Consumer analytical team;
  • Proactively identify scientific, technological and GMP issues, propose creative solutions, reports in specific tools (e.g. Trackwise..) and communicate key issues to the appropriate management level;
  • Perform comprehensive, sophisticated and critical evaluation of analytical data (own, team and external). Reviews quality of data, reports and documents produced by analytical team;
  • Ensure all analytical activities are developed in accordance with NSH policies, laws, quality standards, SOPs and safety requirements. Ensures that internal staff are working and maintaining analytical labs in a safe manner and that housekeeping is maintained. Authors and updates of SOPs when needed;
  • Works closely with Technical Category Senior Manager to develop and execute a strategy to maximize capacity & capability of analytical team in order to meet future demands of the portfolio. Ensures optimal utilization of resources to support exploratory (innovation) and development opportunities for product pipeline;
  • Ensure that analytical team is appropriately trained, and maintain training to current requirements. Discuss and suggest opportunities for training, development and coaching/guidance of less senior scientists/technicians when needed;
  • Lead own daily work (i.e. meetings, data review and hands-on lab activities) and daily work of less senior scientists and technicians. May organize, set priorities, schedule and review their work, but has no responsibility to hire, terminate, review objectives and performance or make pay decisions;
  • Looks for innovative and better ways of doing things; actively looks to eliminate non-value-added steps out of processes and procedures.
Requested Education & Experience:
  • PhD+2 or Master +5 or equivalent in analytical, chemistry or related science;
  • Strong communication skills; Expert level oral and written English;
  • More than 5 years’ experience in a similar position within cosmetics or OTC products development in an international company;
  • Proven track record of developing & validating analytical methods in a FMCG/FMCH environment; 
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization and manage teams;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills at all levels within the organization and strong technical writing capability; 
  • Track record of coaching, mentoring, leading and developing people to build strong collaborative teams working in a high performance environment in a culture that values scientific rigor and empowerment:
  • Excellent influencing, organizational and project management skills;
  • Experience in negotiating and agreeing timelines & milestones with sponsors/business partners and continually monitoring progress to ensure timely delivery on projects;
