For the System Behaviour Group within the Laboratory for Reactor Physics and Systems Behaviour we are looking for a

Scientific Officer

Computational Thermal-Hydraulics and Safety Analyses

Your tasks

  • Research and development in the field of nuclear systems behaviour with focus on multi-scale thermal-hydraulics computational methodologies for LWR best-estimate safety and analyses
  • Scientific support to nuclear regulators and industrial partners with emphasis on Pressurized Water Reactors phenomenology and analyses
  • Presentation of research results in the form of peer-reviewed publications, conference attendance and technical reports
  • Contribution to education and teaching activities including supervision of master and PhD Students

Your profile

You hold a university degree in physics, applied mathematics, nuclear or mechanical engineering with doctorate or equivalent experience. With your good working knowledge of single- and two-phase fluid dynamics with heat transfer and experience in the usage of one or several thermal-hydraulics codes, including system (e.g. TRACE), sub-channel (e.g. COBRA-TF) and/or CFD (primarily OpenFOAM) are you the ideal candidate. You are also familiar with numerical methods and code development along with parallel computing, and are interested in integrating thermal-hydraulics methodologies into multi-physics, multi-scale simulation schemes. Programming experience in e.g. FORTRAN, C++ as well as scripting languages (Matlab, Python, Perl, VBA, etc.) is beneficial. In addition you have excellent communication skills in English and additional knowledge of German is advantageous. If you are a good team player with strong capabilities to work independently and motivated to participate in multi-disciplinary research projects, we look forward to your application.
