Group Head, in vitro safety oncology support

In this role, you will be part of a team that uses human-relevant in vitro systems and innovative readouts to accelerate and improve the drug development process while reducing the need for animal testing. As a highly motivated and engaged scientist you will be dedicated to the development and application of advanced cellular systems, including immune-competent tissue models, and will participate in the early profiling of drug candidates across disease areas. Particularly, you will focus on combining 3D multi-cellular cultures, microphysiological systems/organs on a chip, immunophenotyping and confocal imaging technologies to study the mode of action and predict potential liabilities of novel molecules. Furthermore you will:

  • Lead a team of experienced scientists and associates dedicated to the implementation and application of advanced cellular models and molecular approaches for mechanistic safety studies in support of the oncology portfolio.
  • Elaborate the group’s strategy, develop innovative concepts to support complex drug development programs by use of novel in vitro tools,  supervise laboratory activities, experimental design, results interpretation
  • Liaise to safety project leaders and expert disease biologists (immuno-oncology) to support discovery and development projects with customized solutions addressing key safety questions
  • Play a key lead role in the team’s microphysiological systems/organ on a chip efforts: you develop research plans and strategies, supervise and guide external & internal activities; define workable concepts for implementation of novel tools to support a rapidly evolving portfolio; you engage in strategic discussions with internal stakeholders on pathways to use microphysiological systems/organs on a chip as integrated pharmacology/toxicology model during pre-clinical development and beyond

    You have a PhD Mol/Cell Biology, MD or equivalent, several years of experience in relevant field (academia and/or industry) with proven track record (publications) and significant leadership experience allowing you to take the next career step. In addition you bring:

    • Expert scientist level in cell biology with very good knowledge in cancer immunotherapy and immunology in general; expertise with advanced cell models, microphysiological systems and cell engineering techniques; experience in a drug development environment is highly desirable
    • Strong personality with demonstrated leadership skills capable of managing a high performing team in a highly dynamic environment
    • Excellent communication skills, strong innovative potential, be key driver moving new tools into application
