Usability Engineer

Our department is part of SIS WF&IT Research and Development. We develop standalone software products to support our point of care customers and connect our Roche Point of Care along with 3rd party Point of Care instruments.


Responsible for the application of the usability engineering process in projects by direct support, coaching, consulting and/or reviews:


  • Planning and execution of all usability engineering activities from project start to post launch
  • Work with the Point of Care IT Product teams to understand and design product workflows which focus a high-quality user experience
  • Planning, preparation and execution of formative and summative usability evaluations
  • Conduct user research and evaluate user feedback
  • Execute on all phases of the design process— from wire framing concepts to creating production ready visuals
  • Provide design support to development during implementation
  • Adherence to relevant standards (e.g. IEC 62366) and Roche design guidelines
  • Work closely with both customers, product managers, owners and the development teams as a liaison
  • Create and maintain detail oriented documentations and understand and apply design descriptions

    • Bachelor/Master degree in Design (Graphic, Interaction, Visual, and Digital), Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology, Social Sciences or related field
    • Professional usage of visual design and/or wire framing tools
    • 3 to 5 years of working experience in projects with software components
    • Portfolio demonstrating the application of UX tools, techniques and other relevant design artefacts and methods
    • Working experience in close contact with development teams
    • High degree of self-organization, active information collector and connector
    • Flexibility to work with geographically distributed teams
    • It’s a plus to have knowledge in digital health or lab environments
    • Experience designing for global brands
    • Familiarity with HTML5/CSS development projects and/or development is a plus
    • Fluent in English, German is a plus
