A PhD position is available in the group of Andreas Osterwalder in the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (ISIC) at EPFL.
We study cold collisions of neutral atoms and molecules, using the recently developed merged beams technique. This method allows us, for the first time, to investigate chemical reactions in molecular beams at less than 1 Kelvin above absolute zero, and to observe fundamentally important quantum dynamical effects in molecular scattering.
We are looking for highly motivated individuals with a degree in chemistry or physics and, ideally, some experience in one or more of the following areas: vacuum techniques, laser spectroscopy, chemical reaction dynamics, cold/ultracold atoms/molecules.
We offer the possibility to perform fundamental research at the interface of chemistry and physics in a stimulating environment with excellent infrastructure, and a unique possibility to work at the forefront of chemical dynamics research.
