BBP - Postdoctoral Position in Neuro-Glia-Vasculature Modelling

 

The EPFL Blue Brain Project (BBP), situated on the Campus Biotech in Geneva, Switzerland, applies advanced neuroinformatics, data analytics, high-performance computing and simulation-based approaches to the challenge of understanding the structure and function of the mammalian brain in health and disease. The BBP provides the community with regular releases of data, models and tools to accelerate neuroscience discovery and clinical translation through open science and global collaboration.

 

We are currently looking for a:

Neuro-Glia-Vasculature Modelling Postdoctoral Scholar

to strengthen our Molecular Systems team.

 

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Extend the model of astrocytes and vasculature to include better prediction of blood flow and energy usage
  • Develop methods and systems to perform multi-scale modelling
  • Integrate knowledge of the signalling pathways involved in glial messaging 
  • Incorporate aging-related processes into models of the neuro-glia-vasculature unit
  • Publish scientific articles and present at conferences

 

Essential skills and experience required:

  • Experience in modelling of metabolism, blood flow, and/or biochemical signalling cascades
  • Strong biology and mathematical background
  • Good team player
  • Fluent English communication in both speech and writing

 

Preferred:

  • Experience using UNIX/Linux operating systems
  • Coding competence in Python, C++, and NEURON

 

Profile:

  • Ph.D. in computational neuroscience or related field
  • Quality-driven work ethics
  • Strong publication record
