Internship on Optimized Pulse Patterns

The Department of Power Electronics is looking for an intern to assist scientists in the optimization of pulse patterns in order to shape the harmonic content of voltages and currents in power converters. We offer a friendly, international work environment with the possibility to be part of industrial research projects. Doing an internship at ABB Corporate Research is an excellent opportunity to obtain industrial work experience, meet people from many different countries, and learn to apply theory in practice. The duration of this internship will be a minimum of 6 months (starting date as soon as possible).

- Investigation of new problem formulations for multilevel optimized pulse patterns and their integration into an existing computational framework written in Matlab, which uses C-code to connect to a solver

- Comparison of different optimization algorithms that solve the underlying nonlinear optimization problem

- Development of tools and methods to visualize, evaluate and assess various performance criteria of optimized pulse patterns

- Documentation and reporting

- B. Sc. or M. Sc. student (graduates and Ph.D. students are not applicable)
- Officially enrolled in a degree program in a university *
- Fluent oral and written English
- Proficiency in Matlab
- Solid mathematical foundation, including linear algebra and Fourier analysis
- Excellent skills in writing software code that is well-structured, readable, efficient and extendable
- In-depth knowledge in nonlinear optimization, C, pulse width modulation, power electronics and converter topologies is advantageous
* Non-EU/EFTA citizens, please note that a certificate from the university, showing that an internship is a mandatory part of studies, is required for the visa application.
