The Foundation for Research on Information Technologies in Society (IT’IS) is currently seeking applicants for the post as:


C++ Software Engineer


IT’IS is an independent, nonprofit research organization closely associated with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich, with a focus on (1) measurement and simulation of the electromagnetic near-field and (2) advanced, user-friendly desktop and web-based Computational Life Science (CLS) simulation tools, and dedicated high-quality evaluation and test systems. Currently, we are expanding our CLS activities and are looking for a dynamic, motivated, and experienced C++ software engineer to strengthen our multi-disciplinary team.

Your challenges:
  • Development of user-friendly, reliable and stable desktop applications (including data post-processing, numerics, and visualization) by implementing intuitive yet powerful GUIs
  • Dealing with complex scientific data and establishing a chain of trust that helps trace each step of data processing that takes place
  • Work densely integrated within an Agile development process in a highly skilled interdisciplinary team
  • Performing cutting-edge software R&D in a highly dynamic and growing environment
Your strengths:
  • University or technical college degree (Bachelor, Master or PhD) in Information Technology or Computer Sciences (or equivalent knowledge)
  • Extensive experience (at least five years) in software development, in particular using C++ (knowledge of STL, Boost, MS Visual Studio technologies/libraries a plus)
  • Practical experience of Python, OpenGL or web applications (full-stack) of strong advantage
  • Knowledge of other operating systems (e.g., Linux, OSX) and understanding of physics and practical experience in multi-physics (ideally: CLS) simulation software and numerical tools beneficial
  • OpenSource development experience a plus
  • Fascination for the design of high-quality, user-friendly and maintainable software
  • Practical experience with continuous integration (version control, build server, unit testing, etc.) and an appreciation for its value
  • Good verbal and written English skills, German skills a plus
  • Versatility, self-motivation, working to high standards, creativity, flexibility, ability to work independently while being part of a team
