Senior Optical Engineer

Heptagon Advanced Micro Optics (now AMS Optical Sensor Solutions Division) provides industry leadership in sensing technology (proximity, time of flight, illumination, flash, structured light and imaging) that results from a unique combination of wafer-level integration, pragmatic innovation, total supply chain control, a culture of integrity, and a 20+ year track record of delivering breakthrough technologies to leading OEMs.

Heptagon’s research and development teams are located in Zurich, Switzerland; development and manufacturing are in Singapore and Shenzhen, China; and business development and sales offices are located in Santa Clara, CA.

We are looking for good level Senior Optical Engineer to be added to our optical design team in Switzerland.

Task for the position is to contribute towards activities within a worldwide end-to-end product development team focused on successfully developing, prototyping, and producing advanced optoelectronic components (optics + electronics + package). The position involves supporting projects through concept definition, detailed optical design, simulation and prototyping.

Responsibilities:

  • Work within a worldwide multidisciplinary development team to provide optical design solution to customer specifications
  • Define design concepts and select key optical technologies in-line with requirements
  • Optical modeling, and optical system performance simulation and verification
  • Generate product documentation including optical design specifications, and optical design performances reports
  • Perform engineering product verification to ensure compliance to requirements
  • Cooperate with Project Leaders to assure design to be compliant with mechanical and manufacturing ground-rules
  • Work well with diverse geographical team

Ideal Skills:

  • Relevant engineering degree in optics with 5+ years’ experience
  • Design experience in at least two of the following fields: (F1) non-imaging (beam shaping, illumination, concentration, collection, micro-lenses), (F2) imaging (camera, projection, etc), and (F3) wave-optics (diffractive optics, structured light, micro-lenses) for the consumer market
  • Knowledge in optical and micro-optics technologies, materials, components, manufacturing processes, and constraints
  • Hands-on experience in optical measurement
  • Ability to travel worldwide
  • Fluent in English, German is a plus

Tools:

  • Optical: Zemax, LightTools, other tools such as CODE V, TRACEPRO, FRED, VirtualLab are a plus
  • Scientific: Matlab. Python is a plus
  • Data processing and statistical analysis: JMP, R, Matlab
