What's the role?

Powder-Actuated Direct Fastening is one of the most advanced methods in the global construction industry to attach parts to a base material. Here dedicated tools are used to drive hardened steel nails into concrete or steel. Recent tests have shown that the design of these tool and in particular the kinetics of the driving piston significantly influence the fastening quality. In the scope of this internship two existing Hilt tools with fundamentally different designs shall be examined to derive recommendations for future tool developments.

What does the role involve?

As intern in our department you’ll be part of an interdisciplinary Development team with direct contact to colleagues in other departments like Testing or Numerical Simulation. You’ll work closely with our experts to develop recommendations on how to optimize Direct Fastening tools in terms of fastening quality.

Your key responsibilities will be to capture knowledge already existing in the organization, update/extend the data based on theoretical analyzes and derive hypotheses explaining varying fastening qualities. Subsequently you will modify the investigated tools under the guidance of our testing experts to validate these hypotheses. Based on the results you will derive recommendations for future tool developments.
