Technician / Service Engineer in Electron Microscopy

The Scientific Center for Optical and Electron Microscopy (ScopeM) is a central scientific technology platform of ETH Zurich providing resources and services in light and electron microscopy (and related areas). As of May 1st, 2018, or upon agreement, we have an opening for a position as

Technician / Service Engineer in Electron Microscopy

ScopeM maintains state-of-the art microscopy equipment and supports a variety of interdisciplinary research and training programs in light and electron microscopy. ScopeM operates notably numerous transmission and scanning electron microscopes (TEM & SEM), including Focused Ion Beam SEM (FIB-SEM). Your main responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of standard and high-end TEMs, in particular cryo-TEMs, as well as the related infrastructure (building and instrument specific IT / SW), equipment (cryo-holders, vitrobots, carbon-coater...) and sample preparation techniques (cryo-fixation, shadowing and sputtering). You are furthermore in charge of the coordination/execution of repairs in collaboration with the instrument suppliers. You will also train and support users in cryo-TEM, including sample preparation and imaging acquisition methods. Finally you will execute independently service projects.

You bring along experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of TEM, ideally including cryo-TEM and FIB-SEM. You are used to work independently, can autonomously diagnose problems and execute small repairs on such instruments. You also have a good overall understanding in electron microscopy and practical experience in training/supporting users in TEM, including for sample preparation. The ETH Zürich is an equal opportunity employer, and ScopeM offers a welcoming working environment in an international and multidisciplinary environment. You will interact with an experienced team, which is supported by excellent mechanical and electronics workshops. The lab languages are German and English.

We look forward to receiving your online application including a cover letter and full CV until January 15, 2018. Please address your application to Mr. Michael Wobmann, Human Resources. Please note that we exclusively accept applications submitted through our online application portal. Applications via email or postal services will not be considered.
