Software Design Engineer & Technical Lead (Product Integration & Delivery Pos.)


The Product Integration and Delivery team embodies the expertise in many aspects of GNSS receiver products within the Positioning product centre. We aim to satisfy our customers by providing rapid integration, testing, and delivery of firmware releases for such products. The primary tasks of the team include designing and maintaining the internal and external customer-facing features and other higher-level software features, contributing to software development and quality processes, as well as leading software projects, mainly for product firmware releases.

We seek a colleague, with a strong customer focus and extensive experience in designing software for complex products, to take on a technical project leadership role. This person will also be expected to be hands-on with practical software development and will contribute to the design and specification of future products. Coordination with project managers, product management, and other software development teams and projects happens on a daily basis. Travel to other u-blox sites will be required.

  • Lead firmware product release projects.
  • Guide project team members.
  • Realisation of feasibility studies, drafting of technical concepts, and preparation of specifications and requirements for positioning receiver firmware products.
  • Involvement in software quality assessment and maintenance.
  • Design, implementation and testing of new higher level software features.
  • Analysis of field reports, including providing workarounds or fixes for bugs and nonconformities.


  • MSc or PhD in software or electrical engineering, computer science, or equivalent experience.
  • Profound software design and development skills, including:
    • C programming language.
    • Git revision control.
    • MS Visual Studio, Eclipse or similar development environment.
    • Embedded software development.
    • Build toolchains and continuous integration concepts.
  • Sound engineering and problem solving skills.
  • Experience in technical project management and software development processes.
  • Strong customer focus and experience with product development.
  • Knowledge and experience in GNSS technology is a plus, willingness to learn a must.
  • Knowledge in some of the following areas are a plus:
    • Other programming languages, such as Perl and C++.
    • Linux computing, scripting, networking and server concepts.
    • Standard business software, such as MS Office
    • Scientific computing (Matlab, Octave, ...) and statistics.
    • Embedded hardware and low-level system software.
    • Software testing, test automation.
    • Project tracking (Jira) and requirements management software.
  • Ability to work as a member of bigger projects, flexible team player, self-starter.
  • Good communications skills in English (spoken and written).
  • Willingness to travel regularly when required (ca. 15%).
  • Valid work permit in the corresponding work site.
